This year we are partnered with Lily’s Pad, a local non-profit located in Tempe, Arizona.

 Lily's Story

Lily’s Pad came to life in the mind of Brad Taylor, whose three year old daughter, Lily, was diagnosed with high risk Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in December of 2017.  Lily spent just over a month living in Banner Children’s at Desert fighting to become stable in order to begin her outpatient treatment program, a program she would undergo for the next two and a half years. As Lily’s treatment progressed, the chemotherapy she received daily attacked not only the cancer she was fighting but also her immune system.  This immunocompromised state forced Lily away from the activities and friends that she loved, and it became increasingly difficult to motivate her to go to the hospital to receive her treatment.  She was forced to give up seeing her peers, going to public places and what she loved to do the most, play on a public playground with other “new friends”. For 10 months, Lily’s parents struggled to find ways to keep her occupied, happy, and recovering not only from the disease but from the psychological struggles that came with Lily being confined to her home. In October of 2018 Lily returned to preschool after almost a year of isolation.  The once social butterfly had now become shy, scared, and terrified of crowds, noise and the chaos of a school environment. It became obvious to Lily’s family that there was a missing piece in the treatment plan for these young patients battling an autoimmune state and with that as their driving force, the concept of Lily’s Pad was born.

In 2024 we partnered with MORIAH Cooperative, a 10-year-old nonprofit dedicated to empowering children with special needs through free, inclusive social opportunities. MORIAH, which stands for “Motivate and Orchestrate Respectful Interpersonal Achievement and Harmony,” welcomes children of all abilities, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), to foster empathy and friendship. Recognizing the challenges faced by children with special needs, such as social exclusion due to communication deficits, MORIAH employs a unique peer mentorship model. This model pairs children with special needs (ages 5-18) with neurotypical peer mentors (ages 9-18) to promote acceptance and social skills development. Through engaging events like rock climbing, bowling and gardening, participants develop communication skills, while peer mentors learn about inclusion and effective engagement with neurodiverse youth. These invaluable resources and services are made possible by the dedication of volunteers, staff, and benefactors, all focused on empowering children to reach their full potential.

In 2023 year were partnered with Swing Fore Sam.  Swing Fore Sam is a non-profit organization, founded by the Schanafelt family, dedicated to supporting young athletes in their sports journey by providing funding relief to allow these athletes to be able to participate. This organization is inspired by their son, brother and friend, Sam Schanafelt, who loved ALL sports and this community.

In 2022 were partnered with Smiles For Miles, a non-profit foundation with a purpose of providing delightful distractions to children battling cancer.  Their Mission is as simple as their name! They are inspired by their son Miles to bring smiles and happy days to local Arizona children fighting cancer. They are a non-profit foundation with a purpose of providing delightful distractions while kids are in the clinic and hospital receiving treatments, prepping for procedures and attending checkups. They keep the prize closet busting at the seams with great toys, gift cards and other fun items to reward brave cancer fighting cuties. They also have an annual holiday party for the families they serve, in addition to year round programs like Mighty Miles Must-Have inpatient bags, Holiday gift baskets, Birthday gifts for our fighters, Inpatient room decorating, and craft kits for those long treatment days. Join their mission of bringing well deserved smiles to the bravest little fighters!

In 2021 we partnered with the Phoenix chapter of the Angelman Syndrome Foundation.  Angelman Syndrome (AS) is a rare neuro-genetic disorder that occurs in one in 15,000 live births or 500,000 people worldwide. It is caused by a loss of function of the UBE3A gene in the 15th chromosome derived from the mother.  Angelman Syndrome shares symptoms and characteristics with other disorders including autism, cerebral palsy and Prader-Willi syndrome.  The Angelman Syndrome Foundation has impacted the lives of families all over Arizona. They are a main resource for education for new diagnosed families and continue to share and send information for all.  Our contributions will help provide essential items to children with AS such as Rifton adaptive bicycles or Convaid wheelchair strollers, and we are proud to partner with them this year!

In 2020 we were partnered with Families Raising Hope.  Families Raising Hope was founded by Bryan Kovalesky, Melissa Kovalesky and Jeff McGinnis.  Families Raising Hope is a fiscally-sponsored organization of Mission Create, a 501(c)(3). The mission of Families Raising Hope is to assist cancer patients and their families with the financial burden that cancer treatments pose so that they can focus on their health, healing and recovery and not financial concerns from treatment. The primary source of funding for Families Raising Hope is from individual donors and event/corporate sponsors; more so, they solely rely on those generous donations and the donations from our friends and family members.

In 2019 we supported The Joy Bus. Founded and operated by Chopped Champion, Jennifer Caraway, this organization is dedicated to improving the lives of local cancer patients through the power of a hand delivered meal and face-to-face interaction. Inspired by her good friend, Joy, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, Caraway began dropping off home-cooked meals and taking the time to chat with local cancer patients in need of a little good cheer. Over time it expanded into a Valley-wide nonprofit organization and led to creation of the The Joy Bus Diner™, serving breakfast and lunch to the public in support of The Joy Bus Meal Delivery Program. Jennifer and Joy Bus volunteers continue to create fresh, delicious meals and deliver them to patients around the Valley in need of a friendly face and an open ear, and we are proud to partner with them for this years' event.

In 2018 we were honored to support Collin Demas, a local high school son, brother, student, athlete and friend who recently just completed his senior year at Horizon High School (Go Huskys!).  He was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia and we wanted to do everything we could to ease the additional burdens this placed on him and his family. We are happy to report that he is currently CANCER FREE!  Additionally, Collin and his Horizon Huskies' baseball team recently won the 2019 5A State Championship!

Don't forget to wear your best (or worst) Holiday sweater / sweat shirt /

sweater vest / crazy polo / tank top / speedo to this years' event!!!
