While you may recognize the name of Big Brothers Big Sisters, all the work of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona is local with 100% of funding raised staying in Arizona to help Arizona children. Federal funding has been cut drastically, and they continue to rely on local businesses and residents to help create meaningful mentorship matches.

For more than 71 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona (BBBSAZ) has made meaningful, professionally supported matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and youth (“Littles “) aged 6 through 18. BBBSAZ helps create mentoring relationships that inspire confidence, build character, and shape brighter futures for youth across Maricopa and Pinal Counties. Since being founded in Phoenix in 1955 by Justice Lorna Lockwood, Arizona's first woman Supreme Court Justice, we have matched more than 60,000 Arizona children with caring adult mentors, forming bonds of friendship that can last a lifetime. We currently serve more than 1,200 Arizona children every year with 1-to-1 mentorship and site-based programs at UMOM and local schools. Research has shown that having a mentor increases graduation rates, reduces use of drugs and alcohol,

and increases a child's chance for success in their career and life.
